The Taurus G2C has several notable features that make it stand out, including its compact size and affordable price point in the mid-$200 range. While some may dismiss it as a cheap budget gun, its merits should be examined in more detail to determine if it is suitable for concealed carry or simply intended as a sub-$300 range toy. It should be noted that the G2C is in the same category as other reputable firearms like the Sig P365XL and Springfield Hellcat Pro. The gun’s sights are a three-dot configuration with rear windage and elevation adjustment, providing a decent sight picture, but not particularly noteworthy.

Taurus G2C Controls

In terms of controls, the G2C has external safety in addition to the standard polymer frame and striker-fired design found in most pistols. While other models like the S&W M&P series may offer an external safety as an option, the G2C features it on all variants due to its unique trigger design. This double-action/single-action trigger allows the gun to be fired even when the hammer is not cocked, which is why an external thumb safety is present on all models. The trigger pull, wall, and break are all distinctive due to this trigger design.

Slide Release/Stop

The slide release/stop sits in front of the manual thumb safety and is located above it. While there is nothing particularly remarkable about this feature, some may not like how close it is to the safety. The magazine release is where one would expect it to be, just behind the trigger guard, and is easy to press. The release does not require adjusting a grip to operate, which is a plus. The manual safety, while not preferred by the author, serves its purpose in the absence of a manual decocker.

Aesthetics

In terms of aesthetics, the gun may appear blocky but has well-done slide serrations and a nice stainless steel barrel that contrasts with the all-black slide and frame. Overall, it has an appealing appearance. When carrying the gun to the range, it is suggested to become proficient with it, especially for concealed carry purposes. Those who plan on carrying regularly should also consider concealed carry insurance. If a range bag is necessary, one recommendation is the Lynx Defense brand, as they are made in America and offer a range of sizes to accommodate different needs.

Shooting the G2C

Shooting the G2C was a pleasant surprise, as the recoil impulse and bite were less than expected for its size. The gun was smooth and accurate, making it easy to stay on target. The recoil impulse is comparable to a larger compact pistol, like the Glock 19, which may be due to its slightly heavier weight compared to similar slim-framed firearms. Lastly, when it comes to ammunition, stockpiling is always wise, and any 9mm ammo should function well in the G2C.
