Early History
1816 marks the founding year of America’s oldest gunmaker by Eliphalet Remington. Its name has also changed several times, from E. Remington to Remington UMC. Despite these changes, Remington remains a nostalgic and recognized brand in the United States, with most gun owners owning at least one of their firearms.
In 1888, investors who also owned United Metallic Cartridge purchased Remington, leading to the company’s entry into ammunition production.
The addition of DuPont to the company in 1933 brought a wealth of chemical expertise, and the acquisition of Peters Cartridge further solidified Remington’s presence in the ammunition market.
A state-of-the-art plant was opened in 1969 to keep up with high demand, and the company continued to grow and acquire other top gun brands. However, financial struggles led to bankruptcy in 2018 and eventual sale to Vista Outdoor, resulting in a significant restructuring and revitalization of Remington Ammunition.
Today, the company is thriving under Vista Outdoor ownership, with a dedicated and prideful workforce and continually increasing production.
